about

These recordings, engineered by Jon Smulyan in fall 1997, were originally intended to be demos in consideration of him and the band possibly working together more in the future. Jon approached the band after a show, told them he was a fan, and that he had put together a recording studio. He asked if they would be interested in recording something there free of charge as an experiment. "You'd be doing me a favor!" Jon exclaimed, since he was looking to gain more studio experience at the time.

The band thought that the results were amazing! Releasable quality even. Two tracks from these sessions went on to see actual release. "Eunuch" ended up as one side of a split 7-inch vinyl record with Pennsylvania noise rockers Superhighway Carfire on the other, released on Infernal Racket Records. "You Fuck" found a home on the Infernal Racket Records compilation CD & zine package "Manifest(o)". Both came out in 1998.

These tracks, the only recordings of this lineup of the band, with Jason Daniloski newly switched over from guitar to bass, turning the band from a quartet into a power trio, were Mike Hill's last with MEATJACK, and were therefore retroactively and affectionately dubbed "3 songs with Mike Hill". "Z" and "Eunuch" were later re-recorded for the "Trust" album with a different lineup. These sessions also kick-started MEATJACK's relationship with Jon, who would go on to record all of the band's output from this point forward.

about

MEATJACK Baltimore, Maryland

Meatjack was a metal band from the Baltimore, MD rock scene formed in the early '90s and active until 2005. Meatjack can be brutal, ferocious, noisy, and dissonant. They aren't afraid to pound listeners with sensory assault, but they also have a sense of melody.
